What We Treat

Thinning hair is more common than you think — and there are real options

Noticing more hair in your brush, a wider part, or thinning around your temples can be alarming. Hair loss affects women far more often than most people realize, and the emotional impact goes beyond appearance. The earlier you address it, the more options you have.

Understanding the Cause

What causes hair loss and thinning?

Hair loss in women has many potential causes, and it's rarely just one thing. Hormonal shifts are among the most common triggers — changes during pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause, and menopause can all disrupt the hair growth cycle. Thyroid imbalances and fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone can cause hair to enter the shedding phase prematurely.

Stress — both physical and emotional — is another significant factor. Major life events, illness, surgery, or prolonged periods of high stress can trigger a type of hair loss called telogen effluvium, where large numbers of hairs shift into the resting phase at once. Nutritional deficiencies, particularly in iron, B12, biotin, and vitamin D, can also weaken hair follicles and slow growth.

Genetics play a role as well. Female pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) causes gradual thinning along the part line and crown. While it's progressive, early intervention can slow the process significantly and even stimulate regrowth in many cases.
